"This painting is inspired by Leahi Beach park at around 4pm, as the sun hits the water. I love to include eyes in my work, inspired by the Eyes of Dr. TJ Eckleberg, a motif in one of my favorite books, The Great Gatsby. Unlike the Dr. T's Eyes, however, these eyes are not the ever present gaze of capitalism, but the spirit of the island, of nature, holding us accountable for her care."
